Precision Home Worx is the home improvement and repair business of James "Jimmy" Grubb, working out of Claymont, Delaware, and serving homeowners across New Castle County and a small slice of southeastern Pennsylvania. We are a one-person shop with deep bench experience — more than three decades in the trade, a 1-year workmanship warranty on every job, and the kind of careful, slow-down-and-do-it-right approach that turns a single repair into a 10-year relationship.

Most of our work comes from word of mouth — about ninety percent of our customers find us through a neighbor, a family member, or a friend who has worked with us before. The remaining ten percent finds us through Google. Both groups tend to come back: roughly seven in ten of our customers hire us a second time.

Jimmy's Story

Jimmy has over 35 years of hands-on experience. The sense of accomplishment that comes from a job done well — that's what drew him into the trade in the first place, and it's still the reason he shows up at six in the morning to load the van.

After raising his family and putting in years of remodeling, painting, and finish work, he has simple reasons for staying. "Family matters," as he puts it. Northern Delaware is the rare place where a contractor and a homeowner can become friends across a kitchen remodel, swap stories at the Marsh Road diner afterward, and run into each other six months later at Lucky's hardware on a Saturday morning.

For more than a decade after the move, Jimmy worked for a local home-improvement company across Wilmington, Claymont, Hockessin, Newark, and the Brandywine Hundred neighborhoods. He learned the housing stock cold — the 1920s Wilmington row homes with cast-iron drains and plaster walls, the post-war Claymont and Brookview ranches with original kitchens, the 1960s Brandywine Hundred splits with copper supply and oak floors under three layers of vinyl, the 1990s Hockessin and Pike Creek subdivisions with polybutylene supply runs and pressure-treated decks now reaching the end of their life.

In 2023, Jimmy decided it was time to restart on his own. Precision Home Worx was registered as a sole proprietorship with the Delaware Division of Revenue (license #223872998), and the first customers were the people who had already been calling him for years, asking when he'd finally hang his own shingle.

That's the short version. The longer version is in every job we take on — the shut-off valve we replace on a water heater swap because the old one is corroded, the drop cloth we lay from the front door to the bathroom before we carry the first tool in, the second opinion we offer for free when a homeowner has been told they need a full kitchen tear-out and we can see a refresh will do.

Our Reviews

The Precision Home Worx Standard

"Trusting Satisfaction — finished correctly the first time" is the line on the van wrap. These are the concrete promises behind it — the non-negotiables that show up on every job, whether it's a $300 faucet replacement or a $40,000 kitchen remodel.

1. Shut-off valves are always replaced

When we replace a faucet, a water heater, a dishwasher, or any fixture with an aging supply line, we replace the shut-off valve as part of the job. Old shut-off valves are usually the failure point three years down the road — quarter-turn ball valves cost a few dollars more and last decades longer. We don't skip this even when the existing valve looks fine.

3. One-year workmanship warranty on every job

Every job we perform comes with a 1-year workmanship warranty. If something we installed or built fails because of how we installed or built it within the first year, we come back and fix it. Manufacturer warranties on materials pass through separately — we handle the paperwork and coordinate with the manufacturer if a product fails on its own.

5. Links and confirmation on every selection

Cabinets, tile, flooring, fixtures, paint colors — before we place any order, we send you links to every selection and confirm in writing. No surprises. No "oh, we got the bone instead of the white because that's what was in stock." The selections you approve are the selections that show up in your home.

2. Drop cloths and runners from the front door to the work area

Before any tool leaves the van, we lay protective runners from the entry to the work zone. Furniture gets covered. Adjacent rooms get tarped. We don't track sawdust, drywall dust, or jobsite grit into the rest of the house. This is one of the items customers mention most in our reviews — and it costs us almost nothing to do.

4. Free second opinions

If you've been quoted a major scope by another contractor and want a second set of eyes before you sign, we'll come out, look at the work, and give you our honest read at no charge. Sometimes, we'll tell you the first quote was fair. Sometimes, we'll tell you the work can be done for less. Sometimes, we'll tell you to walk away. The visit is free either way.

6. Booties on every estimate visit

From the very first estimate visit — before there's any contract, any deposit, any commitment at all — we put booties on at the door. The level of respect we show for your floors on day one is the level of respect you'll get for the next 30 years.

Faith, Family & Community

Precision Home Worx is family-grounded and faith-grounded. Jimmy and his family attend Concord Baptist Church, which has been part of the family's life in Northern Delaware for years. The subtle dove imagery on our van and in our brand is intentional. It's not a marketing decision; it's a reflection of how Jimmy lives and works.

This doesn't mean we screen customers. We work for anyone in our service area who calls — Christian, Jewish, Muslim, secular, agnostic. The faith piece shapes how we work, not who we work for. It shows up in the small things: showing up when we said we would, telling you the honest truth even when it costs us the job, cleaning up at the end of every day, and never up-charging on the back end.

Jimmy also does a meaningful amount of quiet pro-bono work — repairs and small projects for households going through hard times, single-parent families, and neighbors recovering from a difficult year. It isn't a marketing program, and it isn't on a schedule. It happens at his discretion, and we don't talk about it publicly beyond mentioning here that it's part of who we are.

If you've found us through Concord Baptist Church, Concord Christian Academy, or another local community, welcome — and please feel free to mention that connection when you call. It doesn't unlock a discount or a special package, but it does help us understand who recommended you and stay grounded in the community we serve.

Where We Live and Where We Work

Jimmy has lived in Northern Delaware for more than 15 years. The van is more likely to be parked in front of an 84 Lumber, a Lucky's hardware, a Concord Mall meeting spot, or a Marsh Road diner than any other set of locations in the state. The kids grew up at Rockford Park. Friday afternoons end at familiar places with familiar people.

Our service area covers the communities where we actually live and work — not a generic "we service the entire state" claim that means nothing. Active service area:

  • Claymont, Wilmington, North Wilmington, and the Brandywine Hundred neighborhoods (Bellevue Manor, Brandywood, Concord Manor, Northcrest, Carrcroft, Wynnewood, Bonsall Park)

  • Hockessin, Greenville, Centreville, and the Chateau Country corridor

  • Newark, Pike Creek, Marshallton, Newport, Stanton, Christiana, and the University of Delaware-adjacent neighborhoods

  • Bear, Glasgow, and the William Penn land-grant communities along Route 40

  • New Castle and the historic district along the Delaware River

  • A small slice of southeastern Pennsylvania — Garnet Valley, Glen Mills, Chadds Ford, and Cheyney — for projects within the scope of HICPA (Pennsylvania's Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act) permits

For a full breakdown of the communities we serve and what each neighborhood's housing stock looks like, our Service Areas hub walks through every neighborhood we work in.

Our Pricing and the Honest Conversation

We don't compete on price. There are dozens of handymen and home-improvement shops in Northern Delaware who will quote a job for less than we will, and some of them will do solid work. What we offer is the other end of the spectrum — careful, precise, slow-down, and do-it-right work, backed by 35+ years of experience and a one-year written warranty.

Two things customers tell us most often before they hire us:

"You're not the cheapest quote we got"

That's accurate. We charge what the work is worth done correctly the first time, with quality materials, proper substrates, and the time it takes to do the small things right.

"You said this would take longer than the other guys said it would"

Also accurate. We won't shorten a timeline to win a bid and then either rush the work or miss the deadline. The realistic timeline at the estimate is the realistic timeline at the finish.

This is the honest conversation we have at every estimate. If price is the most important variable for your project, we may not be the right contractor — and we'll often help you understand what the bid you've already received actually covers so you can decide with eyes open. If quality and respect for your home are the most important variables, we are exactly the right contractor.

Every project starts with a free, no-obligation estimate. Booties on at the door. Honest walk-through of what the work involves. Written quote within a few days. Selections approved with links before any order goes in. Drop cloths and runners on day one. Shut-off valves replaced. Daily clean-up. One-year warranty on the finish.

FAQs

Premium FAQ Design

Precision Home Worx was founded in 2023 as a Delaware sole proprietorship. Jimmy has more than 35 years of personal trade experience — light remodeling, painting, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing across two decades of full-time work for other Northern Delaware home-improvement companies before starting on his own.

Yes. Precision Home Worx holds Delaware Division of Revenue License #223872998. We are fully insured for general liability and a Certificate of Insurance is available on request. For Pennsylvania work, we operate within the scope HICPA permits.

We take a limited number of projects in Garnet Valley, Glen Mills, Chadds Ford, and Cheyney — communities just over the PA line that are part of our natural service area. PA work is subject to HICPA scope rules; for projects over $5,000 in Pennsylvania, ask us during the estimate conversation.

Because we're not. We don't compete on price. We compete on doing the work correctly the first time, with quality materials, careful protection of your home, and a one-year written warranty. Roughly 70% of our customers hire us a second time — that's the metric we care about.

Call (302) 321-3577 or fill out the free-estimate form. We'll set up a no-obligation visit, walk through the project with you, put booties on at the door, and follow up with a written quote within a few days. Most estimates are scheduled within a week.

Jimmy is personally a Christian and Precision Home Worx is family-grounded. The dove on our van is intentional. None of that affects who we work for — we serve homeowners across Northern Delaware regardless of background. The faith piece shapes how we work, not who we work for.
