Sink Cabinet Replacement in Newark, DE
- Ruined Sink Bases Replaced
- Drain and Supply Kept in Place
- Back Panel Cut to Your Pipes
Empty the cabinet before the visit, if you can.

Replacing a sink base that a leak has ruined is one cabinet's worth of work. The swollen box is removed, and a new one is fitted into the opening and to the pipes already in the wall before your sink goes back on.
First comes the leaking joint, traced and fixed so the new box starts dry. After that, the work in a Newark kitchen stays inside that one cabinet, and the rest of your run is left as it is.
Who Works Under Your Sink
A New Sink Base Fitted to Its Opening
The opening sets the size of the new cabinet
A sink base sits between two neighbors and under a countertop that rests on all three, so the replacement has to match the old box in width, height, and depth. Sink bases come in a short list of standard widths, and the right one fills the gap left by the old cabinet without forcing the top up or leaving a space at the wall. Its back panel is cut for the drain stub and the two supply lines where they leave the wall, and those holes are laid out from the pipes themselves once the old box is gone. The toe kick and face frame are chosen to line up with the cabinets beside it; an exact door match depends on whether your cabinet line is still made.
Keeping a Newark sink on its own drain
Newark received its charter from George II in 1758. Within its city limits today, a new cabinet or countertop counts as finish work with no building permit required, while new plumbing or a plumbing alteration, like moving the sink, requires a building permit, and that is settled in the estimate.
The new base is planned so the sink lands where the old one sat, its drain meeting the existing trap arm and its faucet fed by the existing stops.
A bigger sink or a new spot changes the plan
A ruined base is a natural moment to want a deeper bowl, a wider sink, or a sink centered under the window. A new sink that drops into the same spot can share the old drain if its outlet sits close enough for the tailpiece and trap to reach, and that is measured before a sink is chosen. A wider sink needs a wider base, so the cabinet beside it gives up space and the countertop gets a new cutout or a new top. Sliding the sink sideways takes the trap arm and both supply lines with it. Each of these is laid out before a sink or cabinet is ordered.

| Piece | On this job | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| New base | Sized to the gap between its neighbors | Same width keeps the countertop cutout |
| Back panel | Cut to the pipes already in the wall | Holes laid out once the old box is gone |
| Old cabinet | Cut out in sections where the top traps it | The boxes beside it stay fastened |
| Drain connection | Trap rejoined to the stub in the wall | Same trap arm, same height |
| Supply connections | Faucet lines rejoined to the stops | A replaced stop is soldered or ProPress |
| Toe kick | Set flush with the run | Same height as the boxes beside it |
| Sink and faucet | Disconnected and reconnected | Appliance lines handled as agreed at the visit |
A swollen sink base isn't refaced here. The whole box comes out, and a new one goes in.
Drying a wet kitchen floor and removing mold are jobs for others; the new base goes in once the opening under the sink is dry and clear.
Before the Old Sink Base Comes Out
It can, within limits. A deeper bowl lowers the drain outlet in the cabinet, and the trap beneath it still has to sit below the point where the drain enters the wall. If the new outlet ends up too low for that, the bowl depth is scaled back to suit the trap.
A sink base has a false drawer front across the top because the bowl fills the space behind it. The new base comes with its own. Where you'd like a tilt-out tray there for sponges, that is worth asking for when Jimmy visits.
Front to back, the new base matches its neighbors. A deeper box would stick out past the run and leave the countertop short at its front edge, so any extra room for the sink comes from the bowl.
That depends on the cabinet line you choose, and the options are laid out at the visit. A plywood box keeps its shape longer if it ever gets wet again, which is worth weighing for the one cabinet that sits underwater.
If it works and you like it, yes. It comes off with the sink and goes back on with new supply lines. If its base or sprayer hose was where the water came from, a new faucet makes more sense. You can pick one out before the work date.
What Happens Under a Newark Sink
Call with what you see
Call or text (302) 321-3577 and describe the cabinet: a swollen floor, a soft front edge, or doors that no longer close.
The estimate visit
The base, its neighbors, and the top are checked, and the spot where the drain and supply lines exit the wall is noted, along with how the countertop is fastened to the wall.
The old box removed
On the work day, the stops are closed, and the sink comes loose from its plumbing. The old cabinet is cut away from its neighbors, coming out in sections where the countertop traps it.
A base fitted to the pipes
The new cabinet's back is cut where the stubs come through. It is set level, shimmed to the floor, and screwed to the cabinets on each side, under the countertop or ready for it, as settled at the visit.
Doors hung, cabinet back in use
The sink and faucet are reconnected, and the water comes back on. The doors are then hung and adjusted to line up with the cabinets beside them, and the space under the sink is ready to restock.

One base, the same drain and supply, and the same cutout in the same countertop: that is the job the range above describes. Widening the sink or moving it changes what is being bought, since a neighboring cabinet, a new top, or new plumbing comes with it, and each of those is priced separately.
Jimmy prices every project in person at your home, never from a photo or a text. Project estimates are free and are usually scheduled in the evening.
Warranty on the new base
