Sink Cabinet Replacement in Wilmington, DE
- Swollen Sink Bases Replaced
- The Leak Fixed First
- Undermount and Drop-In Sinks Reset
The estimate for the cabinet itself is free, done at your sink.

A slow drip under the kitchen sink does its damage out of sight. By the time the cabinet floor bulges, the bottom edge of the frame crumbles, or a door won't close, the box has soaked up water it can't give back.
We remove the damaged base and install a new cabinet under your sink and countertop. Jimmy does the plumbing himself, from the shut-off valves to the drain, and the floor under the old cabinet is inspected before the new one goes on it.
Active water leaks are the one call we try to reach the same or next day. Call or text Jimmy at (302) 321-3577, Monday through Sunday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Business Behind the New Sink Base
Your countertop left in place where it can be
Whether a top has to be lifted and reset, and who lifts it, is settled at the estimate.
Quarter-turn shut-offs where needed
Valves that leak or won't close are replaced with quarter-turn valves.
The plumbing is Jimmy's own
Valves, supply lines, and drain are reconnected once the new cabinet is set.
Water Under the Sink Ruins a Cabinet From the Floor Up
A sink base takes water from above and holds on to it. A drip from a supply line or a drain joint lands on the cabinet floor, pools at the back where nobody looks, and soaks into the panel and the bottoms of the sides. How far that water traveled sets the size of the job.
The cabinet is ruined, but the countertop is fine
When the damage stops at the box, the base is replaced under the existing countertop. The sink and faucet are disconnected, the drain and supply lines come off, and the old cabinet is cut free. Screwed to its neighbors and trapped under the top, a sink base can't slide out whole, so it comes out in pieces where it has to. A new base of the same width is installed, leveled, and fastened to its neighbors. Then the sink is reconnected.
When the countertop and sink have to come off
Some tops won't let a base out from under them. A laminate top that was glued and screwed down can crack or lose its surface on removal. An undermount sink hangs from the underside of a stone top, so its support has to be held or replaced while the cabinet below it is out. If the old top can't be saved, the job grows to include a new countertop, in stone or laminate.
quartz countertop replacementWhen the water reached the floor or the next cabinet
A leak that runs long enough can get past the sink base: into the subfloor beneath it, the dishwasher's side panel beside it, or the cabinet on its other side. Once the base is out, the subfloor is checked. Where it has gone soft, that section of floor is replaced and strengthened from below. If more than one cabinet is ruined, the whole run may be due, and that becomes a kitchen remodel.
A bathroom vanity fails the same way, from the same kinds of drips. Replacing a damaged vanity is part of our powder room and half bath work.
vanity replacement in a powder room or half bathWhere the water came from
The new cabinet goes in only after the leak that ruined the old one is found. Under a kitchen sink, the suspects sit close together: the shut-off valves and the nuts on them, the supply lines to the faucet, the faucet's own base and its sprayer hose, the strainer where the sink meets the drain, the slip joints on the trap and the dishwasher's drain hose where it joins the sink drain or the disposal. Each one leaks under different conditions. A cracked strainer seal leaks when the sink holds water. A loose trap joint drips when the sink drains. A failing valve or supply line can be wet all the time. Water is run through the sink to find which joint it is, and that joint is repaired before the new cabinet goes in.
plumbing repairs and water heatersParticleboard or solid wood: what a wet base can take
A particleboard sink base behaves differently once it gets wet. Particleboard is wood chips pressed together with glue. Water wicks in at any cut or chipped edge, the chips swell apart, and the board doesn't shrink back when it dries. It stays thick and soft; its skin bubbles and screws pull out of it, so a swollen particleboard floor is a replacement, not a repair. A cabinet built of solid wood or plywood reacts to the same leak differently. Solid wood swells and then shrinks back as it dries, and plywood's layers hold together longer, so the box may keep its shape. The question is whether the wood stayed wet long enough to soften, which is checked with the cabinet empty.
Fastening a sink base to plaster-and-lath walls in Wilmington
A sink base is held by more than just its neighbors: it is also fastened to the wall along its back rail. A Wilmington row-home kitchen can have plaster on wood lath over unevenly spaced framing, and plaster alone gives a screw little to grip and can crack around it. So the framing behind the plaster is found, the base is shimmed so it stands plumb against a wall that may not be plumb, and it is fastened through to the wood, with a backing strip where no framing falls in the right place.
Pulling a Ruined Sink Base and Setting a New One
First call: is it still leaking?
Call or text (302) 321-3577 and say whether water is still coming out and whether the sink is undermount or drop-in. An active leak is repaired first on its own visit, and the cabinet replacement is scheduled afterward.
The estimate at the sink
The estimate is in person, usually in the evening. The valves, supply lines, and drain are looked at; the way the countertop and sink are fastened is noted; and the base and its neighbors are measured.
Old base out
The sink is disconnected, the top held in place or lifted if agreed beforehand, and the damaged base is cut free from the cabinets beside it. A slow leak that had been waiting for this visit has now had its part replaced.
Floor checked, new base set
With the opening clear and dry, the new cabinet is leveled and fastened to its neighbors, and the countertop is set back onto it.
Sink back in use
The sink, faucet, and drain go back together, with any dishwasher or disposal hookup you agreed to. Once the sink has held water and drained with the joints underneath dry, it's yours to use again.

Drying out a soaked sink cabinet and cleaning up mold are for others to handle; the new base goes in once the space under the sink is dry and clear.

The top sets the shape of the job. A base swapped under a countertop that stays where it is comes down to carpentry and a few plumbing connections, while an undermount sink hanging from a stone top has to be held up, or the top lifted, before the old base can come out. New shut-off valves and a dishwasher or disposal to disconnect and reconnect add to it. A soft subfloor or a countertop that can't be reused is priced once it's visible.

Reading a Wet Sink Base After the Leak Stops
Not necessarily. A stain shows that water was there; softness, swelling, or a hump shows that it did damage. Press on the cabinet floor and on the bottom rail of the front frame. If both are firm and flat and the leak has been repaired, the box may have plenty of life left. If the floor gives, flakes, or has risen, the panel has lost its strength.
Once the leak has been repaired, yes. Keep cleaning products somewhere else for now, and glance under the sink after the dishwasher runs, since that is when its drain hose carries water.
It will be the same width and height, so the countertop will sit on it the way it did on the old one. The door is the harder part. If your cabinet line is still made, the door style and finish can be ordered to match. If it isn't, the new doors are chosen to sit well beside the old ones, and the options are laid out for you to pick from.
Stock sink bases come in set widths, and the new one has to fill the same gap so the countertop and the cabinets on either side stay where they are. A gap an inch or so off a stock size can be made up with a filler strip beside the new base. A gap much wider or narrower than any stock base calls for a cabinet ordered to size, and that changes the lead time, which you hear about before anything is ordered.
As little as you can manage. A plastic tray or mat on the cabinet floor catches drips and makes them visible before they soak in. Keep a clear line to the valves so you can reach them fast, and store heavy bottles away from the trap and the supply lines, where a bump can loosen a joint.
Still Wet Under the Sink?
If it's still wet under there, turn the shut-off valves under the sink clockwise until they stop, or close the main if they won't move, and then call or text (302) 321-3577.
