Toilet and Faucet Replacement in Wilmington, DE
- Toilets and Faucets Replaced
- Rotted Flanges Fixed
- Soft Floors Rebuilt
Name the fixture and what it is doing when you call.

Swapping a toilet or a faucet looks like an hour's work from the outside. Whether the new one stays tight and dry depends on what it is fastened to: the flange the toilet bolts to, the floor around it, and the valves and supply lines feeding the faucet. Those are the parts that decide whether a new fixture lasts.
Jimmy Grubb pulls the old fixture, sets the new one, and makes the plumbing connections himself in kitchens and bathrooms alike.
The Name on the Toilet and Faucet Work
Plumbing by Jimmy himself.
The person who prices the job is the one who sets the fixture and makes the connections.
Brands you know.
American Standard and Moen toilets; Moen, Delta and Kohler faucets.
New supply lines where needed.
A worn or old-style supply line is replaced with the fixture.
What Is Hiding Under an Old Toilet or Faucet?
A toilet sits on a flange, a wax seal and a few square feet of subfloor, and a faucet is fed by the valves under the sink. Those parts stay out of sight for years, and a new fixture is only as sound as they are.
A straight toilet replacement
When the flange is sound and the floor is solid, the old toilet comes off, and the old wax is scraped away. The new toilet is set on a new seal, with the seal type and bolts noted in the estimate. It is leveled to the floor so it cannot rock, tightened evenly, and connected.
When the flange or the floor has given out
The flange is the fitting in the floor that the toilet bolts to and that connects it to the drain. If it has rotted, cracked, or rusted, a new toilet has nothing solid to hold onto, and the seal will fail again. Rotted flanges and old cast-iron ones are both replaced with a PVC flange reinforced with a metal ring. If the subfloor around the flange has gone soft from a slow leak, the rot is cut out, and the floor is rebuilt solid before the new flange and toilet go down.
Kitchen and bathroom faucets
A faucet replacement starts under the sink. The old faucet is removed from the sink or counter, and the valves feeding it are checked. Then the new faucet is mounted, connected, and tested. In a kitchen, a new garbage disposal can be installed during the same visit.
What Jimmy checks under the sink
A new faucet depends on the valves and pipe that feed it. Under the sink, Jimmy checks how the old shut-off valve is attached to the pipe and what kind of pipe it is, because the answer tells him how a new valve would connect. He turns the valve to see whether it closes all the way, and looks for a drip at its stem. A valve that needs replacing is priced at the time of the visit.
Plumbing and water heater servicesRough-in and cast-iron flanges in Wilmington's older houses
Nearly half of Wilmington's homes were built in 1939 or earlier, and a toilet in a house that age can sit on a drain laid out long before today's fixtures. Rough-in is the distance from the finished wall behind the toilet to the center of the drain. Twelve inches is the standard for toilets sold today, but an older bathroom can have a 10-inch or 14-inch rough-in. A 12-inch toilet set on a 10-inch rough-in hits the wall, and on a 14-inch one, it stands 2 inches out from the wall, so Jimmy measures before you buy. The same older drain can end in a cast-iron flange leaded into a cast-iron line. Cast iron rusts from the top edge down, and once the slots that hold the closet bolts have thinned, the bolts have nothing left to grip and the toilet works loose on its seal.
From Your Call to a Dry Floor
What's leaking or rocking
Call or text Jimmy with what you want replaced and anything you've noticed, like a toilet that moves or water at the base. Active water leaks are the one call we try to reach the same or next day.
An in-person look
He checks whether the toilet rocks, measures the rough-in, and looks at the valves and the floor around the base. For a faucet, he counts the holes in the counter. You settle on the fixture you want. Jimmy looks it over in person, and the written price follows.
Water off, old fixture out
The water is shut off, and the old toilet or faucet comes out. The area around it is protected.
Repairs and new parts
Anything found under the old fixture is put right first. Then the supply lines and the new fixture go in.
Flush, run and check
The toilet is flushed, and the faucet is run with you there, and Jimmy checks the base, the tank bolts, the supply line, and the valve for any weeping.

What to Weigh When Replacing a Toilet
A toilet that runs or a handle that sticks can be fixed with new parts inside the tank, which may be a small-job visit at the service-call rate. A crack in the bowl or the tank cannot be repaired, and it will leak. An old toilet that clogs over and over, or one that uses far more water per flush than new models, is also worth replacing. Jimmy tells you which applies once he sees it.
Toilets sold in the US since 1994 are limited to 1.6 gallons per flush, and toilets made before that can use 3.5 gallons or more. WaterSense models use 1.28 gallons or less per flush. Replacing a pre-1994 toilet noticeably cuts the water each flush uses.
A two-piece toilet has a separate tank bolted onto the bowl. A one-piece has the tank and bowl cast as a single unit, so there is no tank-to-bowl joint to seal and no gap around the bolts to clean, but it is heavier to carry in and set. A two-piece comes in more shapes and sizes, and its tank can be replaced separately if it cracks. Both sit on the same flange and seal.
It's a toilet with a taller bowl, close to the height of a chair seat, so sitting down and standing up take less effort. It installs on the same flange and drain as a standard toilet. It pairs well with a grab bar beside it.
A failed wax seal, or a failed flange under it, lets water out each time the toilet flushes. Some of it ends up under the floor, which is how subfloors go soft. Turn the valve behind the toilet off and stop using it if you can, then get in touch.
Yes. The holes in a stone counter are already cut, so the new faucet has to suit them. A single-handle faucet can cover extra holes with a deck plate. A faucet that needs more holes than you have is the one choice that doesn't work.
